Last Friday brought about some very disturbing news.  My first boyfriend Ryan has been battling a rare blood disease since his senior year in high school.  Last year he went into the hospital for a bone marrow transplant.  After a second transplant, he was put in isolation and his immune system was supressed due to a case of graft vs. host disease.  He was weak and in isolation for most of the year.  Around August he bagan getting better.  Things were turning up and he was taken out of isolation, and he returned to work.  However a few months later he got violently ill again and he was placed back in the hospital in isolation.  He then came down with a yeast infection in his lungs that later spread to his eyes.  The doctors could really do nothing for him, so they induced a coma in hopes that that would allow his body to fight the infection.  However, on Friday morning at 11am, Ryan Alan Barrows passed away, a mere 20 years old.  He was an active member in Oswego Presbyterian Church, very intelligent and genuine, and always willing to go the extra mile for someone he didn't even know.  He was the person that everyone looks up to and aspires to be.  To me, he was an excellent boyfriend, friend, coworker, and boss.  He was one hell of a person, and I am glad that his pain is no more, and he is much better off now.
Rest In Peace.
Ryan Alan Barrows
